United Kingdom - Passport & Nationality - British Citizenship by Double Descent (Pre 49 Birth UKM)
Claims to British nationality from a UK-born grandparent are rare, even more so if the applicant was born before 1949. But a solution exists where an applicant:
- was born before 1 January 1949;
- in a country that was NOT part of the former British Crown Dominions, a Mandated or Trust Territory, a Protectorate or Protected State;
- to a mother who was (or would have been in the modern day) British by descent;
- to a father who was NOT born in a country that was part of the former British Crown Dominions, a Mandated or Trust Territory, a Protectorate or Protected State ; AND
- who has a maternal grandparent born in the UK.
Both parents must have escaped the Automatic Loss of citizenship upon the independence of their country of birth (if applicable).
