New Zealand - flag New Zealand - Family & Partner - Spouse Visa (Marriage or De Facto Visa)

If your partner is a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident and you want to come to New Zealand to live together, you will need to apply for a residence visa. In order to qualify, you must have been living with your partner for 12 months or more in a relationship that is genuine and stable.

To be eligible you must:

  • Be able to provide evidence that you have been living together for a minimum of 12 months
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Be aged over 18 (or between 16 and 18 and have the support of your parents/guardian)
  • Be able to demonstrate public recognition of your relationship from friends and family
  • Provide a marriage or civil union certificate (if married)

You may be required to attend interviews with New Zealand immigration representatives as well as lodging all relevant documents.

Before the visa is approved, the New Zealand Immigration Service (NZIS) will need to see documentation such as medical certificates, police checks and your partner’s citizenship or residence details.

WhatPassport.com is a specialist UK Nationality and British Citizenship site offering an online search and assessment. Claims to hold a British Passport can be complex and the site offers a quick, simple search to give you the answers. While many people qualify for the UK Ancestry Visa based on holding a Commonwealth passport with a UK born grandmother or grandfather, we have found that if you have a grandparent born in the UK, or if your mother is British or your father is British, then there are several scenarios where you can claim British Nationality and the right to hold a British Passport. This stems from Britain’s collection of British Colonies, British Protectorates and British Protected States in the middle of last century and the Nationality rules concerning what are now the countries of the Commonwealth.
