United Kingdom - Passport & Nationality - British Citizenship by Double Descent (Crown Service in WWII)
A Passport by Double Descent is available under this category where:
- a grandfather was born in the UK or Northern Ireland;
- the applicant was born after 31.12.1982; AND
- the UK-born grandfather was in Crown Service at the time of the relevant parent's birth.
What is Crown Service?
Crown Service is normally restricted to work for the Colonial government and UK Crown (but undertaken outside of the UK) and covers the:
- British Military
- Overseas Civil Service
- Colonial Service; and
- Diplomatic Corp
Given that the parent's birth took place during World War II, it is possible that the grandfather was serving in the Allied Forces at the time. Even if this was not active service at the time, there are circumstances where those who were injured, invalided, on call or still on the Reserve List can rely on this for Crown Service.
