Antarctic Territory - flag Antarctic Territory - Passport & Nationality - British Nationality

British Nationality could be obtained through your birth, or through the birth of any one of your parents or grandparents, in the British Antarctic Territory. This arises because of Britain's Colonial history. To determine what form of British Nationality you might have, an analysis of your family's history must be done.

STATUS OF THE BRITISH ANTARCTIC TERRITORIES

Up until 31.12.1948, this territory came within the Crown Dominions. Between 01.01.1949 and 02.03.1962, the territory fell within the UK and Colonies as part of the Falkland Islands Dependencies. From 03.03.1962 until 31.12.1982, the territory came within the UK and Colonies as the British Antarctic Territory. From that date until the present, it is a British Dependent Territory.

WhatPassport.com is a specialist UK Nationality and British Citizenship site offering an online search and assessment. Claims to hold a British Passport can be complex and the site offers a quick, simple search to give you the answers. While many people qualify for the UK Ancestry Visa based on holding a Commonwealth passport with a UK born grandmother or grandfather, we have found that if you have a grandparent born in the UK, or if your mother is British or your father is British, then there are several scenarios where you can claim British Nationality and the right to hold a British Passport. This stems from Britain’s collection of British Colonies, British Protectorates and British Protected States in the middle of last century and the Nationality rules concerning what are now the countries of the Commonwealth.
