Bulgarian Citizenship (Naturalisation)

In order to qualify for a Passport through Residency, one must:

- have a permanent residence permit for 5 years
- over 18 years old;
- not to be a convicted person on a crime before a Bulgarian court;
- have sufficient funds for livelihood;
- be able to use Bulgarian language;
- be released from his current citizenship

The required period of residency decreases too:

- 3 years in case there is a marriage to a Bulgarian citizen at least for 3 years;
- 3 years in case the permanent residence permit is obtained by the applicant when he was between 14 and 18 years old.
