A temporary residence permit may be issued to a foreign national in the event of family reunification if:

1) If your parents or one of them are citizens of the Republic of Lithuania and are residing in the Republic of Lithuania;

2) Both or one of the parents/spouse are/is a citizen or are/is in possession of a residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania in whose guardianship the foreign minor is.

3) If your child who is a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania is residing in the Republic of Lithuania;

4) If your child, who has been granted refugee status and has been issued a permanent residence permit, is residing in the Republic of Lithuania;

5) Your spouse is a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania or is in possession of a permanent residence permit and is residing in the Republic of Lithuania;

6) You are a first-degree relative in a direct ascending line of an person in possession of a residence permit;

7) Your parents, who are incapable to work due to retirement or a disability and are in possession of a permanent residence permit and are residing in the Republic of Lithuania;

8) If particularly difficult circumstances related to divorce or dissolution of a registered partnership or death of a family member occur. Contact the Department of Migration for more information.


* The application to issue a temporary residence permit may be filed by a person whose family members enter for family reunification or by one of the adult family members.

* In the event of family reunification an applicant shall be issued a residence permit for the same period as the person whose family is coming for family reunification to the Republic of Lithuania.

* In certain cases, the person whose family members enters for family reunification, must have resided in the Republic of Lithuania for the last 2 years, hold a temporary residence permit valid for at least one year and have reasonable prospects of obtaining the right to permanently reside in the Republic of Lithuania. The provision shall not apply when the family members join the person who has been granted the refugee status in the Republic of Lithuania.

* The right to family reunification shall not rest with the people who have filed applications for the granting of refuge in the Republic of Lithuania until their application has not yet been finally decided as well as the people who have been granted subsidiary or temporary protection in the Republic of Lithuania.
