This Dependent Child Visa is for dependent children of New Zealand citizens or permanent residents (or anyone else holding a visa that entitles them to live and work freely in New Zealand). To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • Be 16 or younger (or17-24 and single with no children)
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Be totally or substantially dependent on an adult for financial support whether you live with that adult or not
  • Provide evidence of your relationship to your parents and their residence status in New Zealand

If you are aged 17-24 years, you may be asked to provide evidence that you are dependent on an adult for financial support.

Children under 16 who have a parent living outside New Zealand must provide evidence that custody or visitation rights of that parent will not be breached.
