A Temporary Residence Permit, valid for 1 year and renewable for successive periods of 2 years, provided that:

the applicant holds a valid residence visa;

there is no fact or circumstance preventing the granting of the visa if known by the competent authorities;

the applicant is present in Portuguese territory;

the applicant has secured lodging and sufficient means of subsistence in Portugal;

the applicant is registered with the Portuguese Social Security, if applicable;

the applicant has not been convicted for a crime punished with imprisonment for more than 1 year;

the applicant is not banned from entering Portuguese territory; AND

the applicant is not blacklisted listed in the Schengen Information System or in SEF’s Integrated Information System.

The temporary residence permit is not required for:

diplomatic or consular agents endorsed in Portugal;
administrative staff or similar positions in diplomatic missions or consular posts in Portugal;
members of international organizations with head office in Portugal; OR
family members the above.
