Sudan - Passport & Nationality - British Nationality
British Nationality could be obtained through your birth, or through the birth of any one of your parents or grandparents, in Sudan. This arises because of Britain's relationship with Sudan and Britain's Colonial history.
To determine what form of British Nationality you might have, an analysis of your family's history must be done, and then applying it to the Nationality laws governing Sudan that have been passed over the years.
STATUS OF SUDAN
British and Egyptian forces occupied the Sudan in 1898 and the following year the territory became an Anglo-Egyptian Condominium. This continued up until 1953, at which point the UK and Egypt agreed that Sudan should be granted independance. Sudanese Independence was granted on 1 January 1956.
During this period, passport holders were treated as royal prerogative BPPs (British Protected Persons). Since 1 January 1956, Sudan is considered as a Foreign Country.
