United Kingdom - Passport & Nationality - British Citizenship by Double Descent (British Territory - Ireland)
This unique set of circumstances could lead to an application for full British nationality. It requires the following set of requirements:
- Applicant born in an independent country before the independence of their mother's country of birth;
- The applicant's mother born in a territory that was (or became) a former British Protectorate, Protected State, Mandated or Trust Territory or Colony; AND
- The applicant's maternal grandfather was born in Ireland before 31 March 1922.
A further requirement is that the applicant must not have suffered from the Automatic Loss of citizenship that was enacted upon the independence of their mother's country of birth.
