This is an exceptional situation caused by a loophole in the drafting of British Nationality Law.

 - Applicant born anywhere after 1982;

 - Parent born in a Protectorate, Protected State or UK Trust or Mandated Territory before 1949; AND

 - The parent themselves having a father or mother born in the UK.

The parent must have escaped the Automatic Loss provisions that were enacted upon independence, so every situation must be examined on a case-by-case basis. As a general rule, though, if your grandfather was born in the UK, then your parent probably escaped the Automatic Loss provisions. If, however, the relevant grandfather was born in the Crowns Dominions and you are relying on a UK-born grandmother, then the situation becomes more complex.
