Italy - Passport & Nationality - Italian Citizenship through Marriage
If you are spouse of an Italian citizen you have the right to obtain Italian citizenship by marriage in the following circumstances:
- After two years of legal residence in Italy from the date of marriage; OR
- After three years from the date of marriage, if you reside abroad.
These terms of residence are halved if you have children.
As of 4 December 2018, the spouse must pass a basic Italian language test to the level B1 (or higher) of the EU Common Language Framework.
