Somalia - Passport & Nationality - British Nationality
British Nationality could be obtained through your birth, or through the birth of any one of your parents or grandparents, in Somalia. This arises because of Britain's relationship with Somalia and Britain's Colonial history.
To determine what form of British Nationality you might have, an analysis of your family's history must be done, and then applying it to the Nationality laws governing Somalia that have been passed over the years.
STATUS OF SOMALIA
Somaliland (the northern part of modern-day Somalia) was a British Protectorate from 1898. The area in the south was an Italian territory from 1889. From 26.06.1960, the Protectorate became independent and six days later, on the 01.07.1960 joined with the south to form Somalia. It is considered a foreign country for UK Nationality purposes.
